We say this because we ask you to trust figures about your own money. You should be able to find out who is behind them, and to complain to somebody real if they are wrong.

What this is

Tariff Tracker publishes the prices UK households are charged, from the bodies that set them. Energy, water, broadband, mobile, council tax, rent, rail, NHS charges, childcare, the TV licence and insurance. Every figure links back to the regulator, department or company it came from.

It exists because this information is already public and almost nobody can find it. Ofgem publishes the price cap, Ofwat and the water companies publish bills, Ofcom publishes telecoms data, MHCLG publishes council tax, the ONS publishes rents. It is scattered across two dozen sites in formats built for analysts rather than for the person holding the bill.

Corrections

If a figure here is wrong, tell us. It gets fixed, and the correction is noted on the change log entry rather than quietly edited away. That applies whether you are a reader, a regulator or a company we have written about.

Every tracker page ends with a section headed "where this comes from, and where it could be wrong", listing what we could not verify. Those are not disclaimers, they are an invitation. If you can close one of those gaps, please do.

How it is paid for

Some broadband and mobile links earn a commission if you buy through them. Nothing else does. There is no commission on energy, water, council tax, rent, rail, NHS charges, childcare, the TV licence or insurance, and there never will be on insurance.

Three rules go with that, and they are in the code as well as the copy. Providers who pay us nothing are listed alongside those who do. The broadband table sorts on what a contract actually costs across its full term, never on commission. And where a provider pays us and a cheaper one does not, the cheaper one still goes above it.

What we are not

We are not a comparison site, a switching service or a broker. We run no quote forms, arrange no contracts and pass your details to nobody. We are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority, because publishing published statistics does not require authorisation, and nothing here is regulated financial advice. If you want a quote, go to the provider or to an authorised broker.
